CARE GUIDE UPHOLSTERY

Introduction and characteristics

Upholstery is more than just a piece of furniture—it can be the heart of your home, where shared moments, laughter, and relaxation come to life. Regular maintenance not only preserves its comfort and style but also ensures it stays a welcoming centerpiece for years to come.

General Care

Vacuum your upholstery regularly in the direction of the structure of the fabric to remove dust, dirt, and crumbs. Use the soft attachment for upholstery on your vacuum cleaner to avoid damaging the surface. For stains, quick action is key! Light soiling can easily be removed with a damp cloth. For stubborn stains more cleaning steps are needed. For removable cushion covers and inlets, carefully refer to and follow the care instruction provided on the care label inside the cover and on the inlet. Please note that not all covers and inlets are washable. For non-washable or non-removable covers, as well as inlets without care label, spot cleaning with an upholstery cleaning spray is recommended. Explore our range of cleaning and impregnation sprays for effective stain removal. Always adhere to the cleaning product instructions and test any method on a hidden area first to ensure it won’t harm the fabric. To ensure longevity, we recommend treating the fabric with an impregnating spray before use and reapply it according to the instruction on the spray. A popular home remedy for spot cleaning and neutralising odors is baking soda. Sprinkle it on the affected area, let it sit overnight, and vacuum it off the next day. Other effective cleaning agents include shaving cream and laundry detergent. Always check on a hidden area first to ensure the treatment won’t harm the fabric and be especially careful with dark fabrics. For deeper cleaning, consider hiring a professional upholstery cleaner every few years to maintain the condition of your item.

Pilling, or “fuzz,” consists of excess fibers that accumulate into small lumps on the fabric. This is particularly common with natural textiles. To prevent pillling, regularly vacuum your upholstery using the soft attachment for upholstery on your vacuum cleaner to eliminate loose fibers before they have a chance to form fuzz. Take care to avoid applying too much pressure, as this can contribute to pilling. If you notice pilling on your uphosltery, it can be removed with a lint roller or an electric lint remover, effectively restoring the fabric's appearance. Wrinkles may naturally appear in the fabric over time. Smooth out any creases with your hand regularly to even out the fabric. If necessary, use an iron with a steaming function to remove stubborn wrinkles. Always place a clean, dry tea towel between the iron and the fabric to protect it. Allow the fabric to rest for about 30 minutes between steaming sessions to avoid damage. Avoid placing your upholstered item in direct sunlight to prevent fading and damage to its surface. Also, avoid placing it in rooms with high humidity, as this can cause mold, discoloration, and damage to the fabric. Be mindful of contact with chemicals such as paints, nail polish, or nail polish remover, as these can damage the fabric. Additionally, jeans and brightly coloured clothing can transfer dyes onto lighter fabric. Please also be cautious about sharp objects, such as metal parts on your clothes, as these can cause scratches or tears in the fabric. Please note that our upholstery products are made for indoor use only.
