CARE GUIDE RUGS

Introduction and characteristics

Whether in the living room, bedroom or even in the kitchen: a rug creates cosiness and brings warmth into the room. Depending on your needs, you can find a wide variety of models and materials. Find out what you should know before buying and how to care for your rug to ensure its beauty and longevity.

Size Guide

A rug not only enhances the aesthetics of your space but also creates a balanced and cohesive look when chosen in the right size and style. Before purchasing, consider the rug’s placement and the furniture it will complement. Will it define the living area by sitting under the sofa, coffee table, and armchairs, or is it meant to accent a smaller space, like a reading nook or seating corner? To ensure your new rug fits perfectly, mark the desired area on your floor using masking or painter's tape. This will help you visualize the size and placement of your furniture, ensuring the rug complements your layout and available space. Large Rugs: Acting as a centerpiece, a generously sized rug anchors the room, harmonizing the furniture and decor. It also gives the space an open, airy feel, adding to its inviting atmosphere. Small Rugs: Ideal for highlighting specific areas, smaller rugs work well in creating cozy spaces, such as a seating arrangement or a snug corner.

General Care

Make sure to unpack your rug as soon as it arrives. This prevents creases or indentations that can occur from being folded or rolled. Laying your rug flat upside down can help regain its shape. The rug will regain the shape within 24 hours to 48 hours depending upon the type of the rug. How often you vacuum your rug depends on its condition and use. In high-traffic areas like hallways, dining, or living rooms, every other day vacuuming is highly recommended to keep dirt and dust at bay. For bedrooms, a once-a-week routine is usually sufficient. Remember to clean the back of your rug as well—this helps remove dust and allergens that can accumulate. Ideally, you should beat out your rugs once a year to remove deeper dirt that may settle in. Use a rug beater for best results, and then let it air out in fresh air for a few hours to eliminate any unpleasant smell. This step is particularly beneficial for maintaining freshness. Please note this is not recommended for viscose rugs, as it can damage the delicate viscose fibres. If spills or stains occur, act promptly! Start by dabbing the area gently with a cotton cloth to soak up any liquid, taking care not to rub, as this can push the stain deeper into the fibres. Always keep a rug cleaner at home; these products are specially formulated for use on rugs and are gentle on colours and fabrics. Always follow the instructions on the cleaning spray. Before using any cleaner, ensure it’s suitable for your rug’s material, especially if it´s made of sensitive fibres like viscose or silk. After cleaning with a cleaning spray, always allow your rug to dry completely by laying it flat. This prevents deformation and preserves its shape. Avoid using direct heat sources or a dryer, as high temperatures can weaken the fibres. To protect the vibrant colours and structure of your rug, avoid harsh chemicals during cleaning. Be mindful that heavy furniture can leave permanent indentations on the rugs surface. To prevent this, rug protectors should be placed under the legs of heavy items. Additionally, rotating you rug a couple of times a year can help to promote even wear and prevent uneven fading. To maintain you rugs vibrant colours, keep it out of strong sunlight for extended periods. Prolonged exposure can lead to fading and discolouration. It´s recommended to use a rug underlay on oil-treated or untreated flooring and vinyl to protect your floor and to prevent shifting. If a tuft / loose end/ thread is sticking up, simply trim it down with scissors—don’t pull it out! This will help maintain your rugs appearance without causing damage to the surrounding fibres. Please keep your rug away from fire.
